Bernhard an der Gassen

Information Scientist in Berlin, Deutschland

I am a German Austrian Art historian, Information professional and Psychotherapy Practitioner currently working at Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz as a librarian. My task is to process loan- and digitisation requests for exhibitions, I voluntarily serve as library tour guide and I socially function as peer mentor for addiction issues.

At Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin I studied Library and Information Science (M.A. LIS) with emphasis on Information literacy, Semantic Web, Linked open data and the curation of a library- and digital exhibition, based on the avant-gardist Sturm-Archiv.

For my new area of activity as a Psychotherapy Practitioner, I am currently in education as a Trauma therapist.

In my spare time I volunteer as a Neigbourhood Council Member in the Kreuzberg borough I live in, and I am very happy to be able to welcome immigrants.

Before I have been living in Vienna, working at cultural institutions such as Belvedere Museum, Kunsthalle Wien, Palais Dorotheum, Hofburg, Schönbrunn Palace. I additionally underwent trainings on Documentation, Business, Culture and Diversity Management.

Within the scope of my responsibilities at Belvedere Research Center my biggest luck has been, that I was able to contribute to the restitution of Gustav Klimts Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I., which is at New York based Neue Galerie today.

Privately I enjoyed a lot living in the traditional Viennese Jewish quarter Leopoldstadt close to Prater and Danube.

At Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck I studied Art History (Mag. phil.) - with priority on Modernism, Non-European Art and Gender Studies - , European Ethnology, Romance Studies and Medicine.

Among others I jobbed at Kunsthalle Tirol im Salzlager Hall, Architekturzentrum Tirol, Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Tiroler Landestheater and Kunstraum Innsbruck.

I graduated from an artistic high school with i.a. a paper about foreign workers. After I was on Intercultural and Interreligious Sabbatical.

I have a passion for languages, travelling, different cultures and unusual contacts. I speak English and German fluently, have some knowledge - in ongoing learning processes - in Spanish, Italian, Turkish and Russian.
